Very nice! Another quirk of Detroit that may be worth mentioning is that it featured detached housing, even well before the automobile, far more frequently than other aspiring great cities. To my knowledge this development pattern was not enforced so much as it was culturally adopted, but the result being that even some of the old neighborhoods of the city that have lasted through its decline are peculiarly unurban in character.

I’d like to provide you some citations, but I can’t quite remember where I’ve read this.
