It shouldn’t take me so long to write a thank you note, but that’s what getting hit with the flu can do to you.
Last Thursday I asked Corner Side Yard readers to help this Substack newsletter across the 1,000 subscriber threshold. By Saturday, the threshold had been crossed! Unfortunately I was too sick to say anything about it.
More importantly, however, I want to thank all 1,000+ subscribers for signing on. It’s been an incredible journey for me going down this path, and I’m pleased to have each and every one of you along for the ride.
Your subscribing tells me that there is a market for looking at cities as more than simply the engines that drive the global economy. They are places where innovation is fostered, where culture blooms, and where people learn more about life with others. As I’ve said before, cities are perhaps humanity’s greatest invention, because they demonstrate how we can accomplish more working together rather than separately.
And I’m sure you’re aware that I try to bring a special focus on the manufacturing cities of the Midwest, especially the Great Lakes region, that played a formative role in America. Even as new cities rise, it’s instructive to know and understand what’s worked and what hasn’t in older cities. Building better cities is an on-going process and learning from those that experienced success is key to even better cities.
So I thank you. Once I get rid of the recovery brain fog, I’ll get back to work on the content you enjoy.
